Camas High School girls walk off cross-country race over transgender athlete

About a dozen girls from Camas High School in Washington walked off a cross-country race after learning they would compete against a transgender athlete.

Logan Mihailoff, a junior at the school, had switched from the boys’ competition to the girls’ field during the season.

The walk-off happened at a meet on Tuesday, and video of it spread widely online.

WNBA player Sophie Cunningham praised the girls, writing, “Good work girls” in a comment on a social media post.

The protest comes amid a wider dispute over transgender athletes competing in girls’ and women’s sports.

Washington voters will decide Initiative 638 on November 3, which would ban transgender athletes from girls’ K-12 sports if approved.

If it passes, Washington would be the first state to enact such a policy by popular vote, according to the story.
