Two motorcyclists die in head-on crash on Brazil's BR-116

Two motorcyclists died in a head-on collision on BR-116 near Picada Café in southern Brazil on Friday afternoon.

The crash involved a 21-year-old woman from Campo Bom and a 32-year-old man from Dois Irmãos; both were riding Kawasaki motorcycles.

The woman died at the scene, while the man was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

After police examinations and the motorcycles were removed, the woman's body remained by the road for about five hours as officials tried to resolve a dispute over who was responsible for transporting it.

The police chief said an administrative change had shifted forensic duties from Caxias do Sul to Novo Hamburgo without advance notice, and the forensic team did not provide transport because of disagreement over territorial responsibility.

A funeral home eventually took her body away, and police say the deaths will be investigated.
