Turkey’s BIST 100 falls as global rate concerns weigh on markets
Turkey’s BIST 100 stock index fell 132.3 points as trading ended, with banks and holding companies among the sectors that lost value.
The decline came as US inflation rose 3.7% year on year in September, above expectations and adding to concerns about higher interest rates.
Those concerns have reduced appetite for risk in global markets.
In Turkey, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek authorized an investigation into former regulator chief İbrahim Ömer Gönül following a preliminary review linked to a fund issue.
The market will also watch upcoming economic data from Turkey and other countries, including US retail sales and weekly jobless claims.
Analysts identified 12,100 and 12,000 points as support levels for the BIST 100, and 12,300 and 12,400 as resistance levels.
Turkey’s BIST 100 index fell by 132.3 points compared with its previous close.
Total trading volume was 86.1 billion lira.
US inflation above expectations strengthened forecasts of a Federal Reserve rate increase, weighing on global risk appetite.
The banking index fell 1.35% and the holdings index dropped 1.66%.
Financial leasing and factoring shares recorded the largest sector decline, at 6.08%.
