Atmospheric microburst damages homes in São Paulo state

A microburst struck Cachoeira Paulista in São Paulo state on Saturday, bringing wind gusts of up to 126.7 km/h.

The state Civil Defense agency said the event involved powerful downward air currents that create intense winds when they hit the ground.

About 20 homes lost roof sections, trees fell and some electricity supplies were interrupted, but no injuries were reported.

Storms also caused damage in other parts of the state, with high winds recorded in Penápolis, Piracicaba and the Vale do Ribeira.

The wider impact matters because falling trees, damaged roofs and flooding can put residents at risk and disrupt daily life.

São Paulo remains under an orange storm alert, and rain, lightning and localized wind gusts are forecast in parts of the state on Sunday as officials assess damage and assist residents.
