Yarmoliuk sent off as Brentford lose 2-1 to Liverpool

Brentford lost 2-1 to Liverpool in a Premier League match at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off in first-half stoppage time after referee John Brooks reviewed an incident with Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet on the VAR monitor.

Brooks judged Yarmoliuk had made a headbutting action; Liverpool did not get a penalty because the corner had not yet been taken.

Brentford coach Keith Andrews said Jacquet had been “cute and clever” in the incident, but added that Yarmoliuk needed to do better.

Andrews said the red card changed the game’s dynamic, and Liverpool went on to win through goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak.

Brentford also finished with nine players after Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card, and Andrews said Yarmoliuk would learn from the incident.

I do think they were cute, clever - but Yarmo needs to do better, so I can understand why it was a red.
