Pertamina Identifies More Than 1 Billion Barrels of Potential at South Sumatra Site
Pertamina says Padang Pancuran may hold more than 1 billion barrels of potential oil and gas reserves.
The site is in the Jambi Merang work area in South Sumatra, Indonesia.
The company is developing the site, so the reserves are not yet producing oil.
A previous estimate put the potential at up to 1.4 billion barrels, but the current figure given is more than 1 billion.
Pertamina is also building an unconventional oil and gas project in Rokan, in Riau, where it says potential hydrocarbon reserves exceed 11 billion barrels.
The discoveries could help support Indonesia's oil production goals, including a national target of 1 million barrels a day by 2030.
Pertamina says it is directing about 75% of its capital spending to upstream activities such as exploration and production.
The company is seeking permits to begin drilling at Jambi Merang, but no production start date is given.
Pertamina says the Padang Pancuran site in South Sumatra has potential oil and gas reserves of more than 1 billion barrels.
The site is within the Jambi Merang working area and is being developed before production can begin.
Pertamina deputy president director Oki Muraza previously said the Jambi Merang discovery could hold up to 1.4 billion barrels.
The company is seeking permits and hopes to drill several wells this year, Muraza said.
Pertamina says it allocates about 75% of its capital spending to upstream activities, partly to support a national production target of 1 million barrels of oil per day by 2030.

What people are saying
one of our biggest discoveries in Sumatra is Padang Pancuran, in Jambi Merang. We are working there to accelerate development, and its potential is very large, more than 1 billion barrels from Padang Pancuran alone
The giant discovery in Jambi Merang could potentially reach up to 1.4 billion barrels. It is very large, ladies and gentlemen
We are currently handling the permits. Hopefully we can drill several wells this year
