Hunter Douglas former leader Ralph Sonnenberg dies at 92

Ralph Sonnenberg, the former head of Hunter Douglas, died aged 92 on 25 September 2026, according to his family.

He took over from his father, Henry, in 1972 and led the company for decades.

Under Sonnenberg, Hunter Douglas became a global leader in window coverings, with brands including Luxaflex and operations in more than 100 countries.

The company began as a family business, but the family sold a majority stake to investment firm 3G Capital; accounts differ on whether the sale was announced in 2021 or completed in 2022.

The Sonnenberg family retained a 25% stake, and Ralph continued investing after the sale.

His sons said his business principles remain part of the company's foundation.

His death marks the loss of a major figure in the international window-coverings industry; the family has shared its statement, but no further next steps were given.
