Diljit Dosanjh defends Satluj at Delhi concert
Diljit Dosanjh defended his film Satluj at a concert in Delhi on Friday, responding to criticism of his earlier remarks about student protests.
He had said he was “just an artist” after a fan asked him about protests over an exam paper leak, and some critics called his response evasive.
Dosanjh said he supports people but wants to stay quiet, adding that critics should not teach Punjabis how to fight.
Satluj is based on activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who drew attention to alleged illegal killings and secret cremations in Punjab in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The film was released on Zee5 but was removed after two days, drawing criticism from free-speech advocates.
Dosanjh has begun his India tour, which is set to bring him to audiences across the country.
Diljit Dosanjh defended his film Satluj and said Punjabis did not need to be taught how to fight at a Delhi concert.
He addressed criticism of his earlier “I’m an artist” response to questions about student protests over the NEET paper leak.
Dosanjh said the film, based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, had been mocked on stage and that its team had fought for it for a long time.
Abhijeet Dipke of the Cockroach Janta Party, who had criticised Dosanjh, later wrote that he still admired the singer and asked to put their disagreement aside.
The concert was part of the opening day of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour 2026 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

What people are saying
But don’t teach Punjabis how to fight.
The film you are making fun of on stage, Jaswant Singh Khalra’s film — we fought for that film for a long time.
But one disagreement or misunderstanding doesn't change the respect and admiration I have for you.
