Pakistan to assess players before deciding central contracts

The Pakistan Cricket Board is delaying central contracts while coaches and selectors assess players.

Pakistan will play England and Sri Lanka in an ODI tri-series from October 18 to 31 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Head coach Mike Hesson and the selectors also want to consider players’ performances in domestic first-class cricket.

The board plans to use format-specific categories rather than seniority, including Test, T20 and white-ball deals.

The contracts may be announced after Pakistan’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka in November.

The previous contracts expired on July 31, and the new deals are expected to be backdated.

The reason for this is that head coach Mike Hesson, who is coaching the national team in all formats, and the national selectors want to have a look at the performances of the players in the ongoing international matches at home and also the ongoing first-class domestic season before they reach a decision.
