Kentucky beats Vanderbilt 34-17 to take sole lead in SEC

Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 34-17 on Oct.

24 in Lexington, after trailing early in the game.

The Wildcats had managed just 14 yards in the first quarter, but scored 14 points in the second quarter and took the lead before halftime.

The win lifted Kentucky to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in SEC play, while Vanderbilt fell to 3-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Kentucky moved into sole first place in the SEC, a notable position with three conference games still to play.

It was only the sixth season in program history that Kentucky had won at least five SEC games.

The Wildcats have a bye on Oct.

31 and visit Tennessee on Nov.

7 in their next game.

The team will also have time to recover, as several players have been dealing with injuries; coach Will Stein said running back CJ Baxter's shoulder injury was not expected to be long term.
