Erzincan-Erzurum highway reopens after landslide

Heavy rain triggered a landslide on the Erzincan-Erzurum highway in eastern Türkiye, between Üzümlü and Kargın, near Sansa Creek.

Rocks, soil and pooled water covered part of the road, so officials closed it in both directions as a precaution.

Road and emergency crews cleared debris and drained water from under culverts and bridges.

Several public agencies and the municipality took part, using heavy machinery and extra vehicles.

The route reopened in both directions after safety checks were completed.

Vehicles held at Aşkale and Ekşisu were then allowed through under controlled conditions.

The road is now open, though the passage of those waiting vehicles was being managed carefully.
