Hotel investment in Spain could reach a record €5 billion this year

Hotel investment in Spain has reached nearly €4 billion in 2026, close to the total for all of 2025.

It could rise to about €5 billion by the end of the year, if the takeover bid for Atom closes and other deals in negotiation go ahead.

That would beat the previous record of €4.8 billion, set in 2018.

Spanish hotel groups and family investors are driving many purchases, including RIU, the Matutes family and the García-Baquero family, while Turkey’s Kaya group has also entered the market.

Recent deals include RIU’s purchase of Barcelona’s Grand Hyatt for about €350 million and Kaya’s purchase of ME Barcelona for about €100 million.

Investors are using cash built up after years of strong hotel results, and operators relying less on debt are less exposed to higher interest rates.

Spain’s hotel sector has recorded more than €3 billion in investment for six consecutive years, and the pending deals could determine whether this year sets a new high.
