Rashmika Mandanna says actors should be able to set boundaries on costumes

Rashmika Mandanna said she is uncomfortable with revealing outfits and excessive skin show in film roles.

She spoke with her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, on the Indian talk show Koffee With Karan Season 9.

Mandanna said some roles may call for bikinis or revealing costumes, but she tells filmmakers where her boundaries are.

She said actors should be able to speak up when a costume or scene makes them uncomfortable.

The discussion followed criticism of Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in the Telugu film Peddi, including claims that her character was objectified.

Deverakonda said actors need support to refuse requests without being treated as unprofessional, especially after signing a film.

The two said these conversations can be difficult, and Mandanna noted that directors she prefers to work with usually respect her limits.

There are some things I am not okay with. Yes, some characters might need you to wear a bikini or something. Even then, I do inform them that I am not comfortable with my whole… exposing and skin show… I am not that kind of a person.

They all need a support system to tell them that it’s okay to put their foot down and say ‘no.’
