Deutsche Post plans to raise standard letter price to €1.15 in 2027

Deutsche Post plans to raise the standard letter price in Germany from 95 cents to €1.15.

The increase is planned for January 2027, but Germany’s Federal Network Agency must approve it first.

Postcards would also cost €1.15, while prices for other letter formats would rise by varying amounts.

The company says fewer letters and rising costs make higher prices necessary.

Germany sent about 9.4 billion letters in 2025, down from 16.9 billion in 2005, and volumes are still falling.

Deutsche Post says it must maintain a nationwide network of letter boxes and branches, so fewer letters mean higher costs per item.

The company has yet to announce new prices for private parcel deliveries, which may also become more expensive.
