Officials and experts discuss greener coal chemicals in Ningxia
Officials, companies and researchers from several Chinese regions met at Ningxia’s Ningdong Energy and Chemical Base on October 27 to discuss the coal chemicals industry.
The gathering brought together China’s market regulator and representatives from places including Shanxi, Shandong, Shaanxi and Xinjiang.
They discussed industry standards, future development, lower-carbon production and the use of coal to make advanced materials.
One project presented at the event uses renewable power to make green hydrogen, which can replace coal in production.
It is designed to produce 300 million cubic metres of green hydrogen and 6 million tonnes of polyolefins a year, and to displace more than 30 million tonnes of oil imports annually.
Ningdong is a major coal chemicals hub, with large coal-to-oil and coal-based materials industries.
The cross-regional talks aim to link regulators, businesses and researchers to make the industry cleaner and more advanced; no further steps were specified.
