Heavy rain and storm warnings issued across Turkey
Turkey’s weather service forecast heavy rain across much of the country for today.
Istanbul, Yalova, Kocaeli and Sakarya are among the areas expected to face locally very heavy or severe downpours.
Heavy rain is also forecast in parts of the Black Sea region, the south and the west, with some thunderstorms.
Strong winds and storms are expected in several regions, including the Mediterranean, parts of central Turkey and the Black Sea coast.
The warning matters because the weather could cause flash floods, lightning, hail and travel disruption, as well as damage from strong winds.
Residents are urged to take precautions and follow official warnings; the forecast says some storm conditions will continue into Sunday.
Turkey’s Interior Ministry relayed warnings of locally heavy to severe rain and thunderstorms in many parts of the country.
The forecast included Istanbul, Yalova, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bursa, Bilecik and parts of the Black Sea region.
