Billy Crystal says losses have shaken his faith and inspired Broadway show
Billy Crystal says two major losses have shaken his faith: the destruction of his home and the death of longtime friend Rob Reiner.
Crystal and his wife, Janice, fled their Pacific Palisades home during the January 2025 fires, taking photo albums and the clothes they were wearing.
The couple had lived in the house for 46 years, raised their children there and expected to return after the evacuation.
Crystal later learned the house had burned down, and he says the loss led him to question whether he still trusts God.
Reiner and his wife, Michele, were killed in December 2025, adding to the grief Crystal describes.
Crystal is turning these experiences into “860,” a one-man Broadway show named after the address of his former home.
The show is scheduled to open on October 21 and explores his family, career, memories and grief; Crystal says humor has helped him move forward.
