Netflix confirms production of Sanctuary season 2

Netflix has confirmed production of Sanctuary season 2, its drama set in Japan’s professional sumo world.

Wataru Ichinose will return as Kiyoshi Oze, a rough young wrestler known by his ring name, Enno.

Season 1 followed Enno’s rise in sumo after he entered the sport to earn money and repay his father’s debt.

The series showed him clashing with sumo’s traditions before gradually becoming drawn to the sport.

The first season reached the top 10 in more than 50 countries and regions and ranked sixth in Netflix’s global non-English series chart.

Director Kan Eguchi and screenwriter Tomoki Kanazawa will also return for the new season.

No release date was announced, but Ichinose said he would give everything to the role again.
