South Korean man jailed for six months for assaulting driver

A Busan court sentenced a man in his 50s to six months in prison for assaulting a driver.

The attack happened on a road in Busan's Sasang district on February 9, after the man became angry that a car's headlights lit up his face.

He blocked the car and struck the driver, who was in his 20s, then grabbed him by the collar.

The man had been released from prison in February 2023 after serving a sentence for stalking and other offences, and committed the assault while still within a repeat-offence period.

The judge said assaulting drivers can endanger public road safety and that the man's actions were serious.

The court's sentence is six months in prison; no further legal steps were reported.
