Analogue brings back updated Sega and Nintendo cartridge consoles

Analogue has announced two updated retro gaming consoles, the Mega Sg+ for Sega games and the Super Nt+ for Nintendo games.

They play original cartridges from the Sega Genesis and related systems, and the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom.

The machines use FPGA hardware to recreate the original consoles, rather than running games through software emulation.

Both support wireless controllers through Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connections, and also work with wired controllers.

They output games at up to 1080p for modern TVs, but do not support 4K.

Each console costs about $220, and buyers need to supply their own game cartridges and, according to one source, controllers.

The new models also let players swap cartridges without turning the console off and power it on or off with a controller.

Pre-orders begin October 19, with shipping planned for December.
