New apartment prices in Gyeonggi reach a record high

The average sale price of new apartments in Gyeonggi reached a record 22.56 million won per 3.3 square metres in the first nine months of the year.

Gyeonggi is a province around Seoul, and prices have risen for five years in a row.

In popular areas, including Guri, Bucheon and Gwangmyeong, average prices exceeded 30 million won per 3.3 square metres.

Apartment sale prices have also risen, especially in areas near semiconductor industry sites, including Dongtan, Yeongtong and Suji.

As costs rise, buyers are looking toward less expensive districts such as Ansan, Siheung, Osan, Icheon and Pyeongtaek.

Some of these districts are not subject to the same housing regulations as popular areas such as Guri and Gwangmyeong, where rules make borrowing and applying for homes harder.

The real estate industry expects demand to keep spreading to nearby areas with lower prices and transport or industry advantages.
