Korean filmmaker July Jung receives France’s Order of Arts and Letters
Korean director July Jung received a French cultural honor at a ceremony in Busan last week.
She was awarded the Chevalier grade of France’s Order of Arts and Letters, one of three grades in the order.
All three of Jung’s feature films have screened at Cannes, including her debut, “A Girl at My Door,” and her latest film, “Dora.”
“Dora” was co-produced by South Korea, France and Luxembourg.
Jung said support from French audiences helped her recognize how films can make the lives they portray feel like shared stories.
The ceremony brought together about 150 film-industry figures from South Korea and France.
It was held alongside the Busan International Film Festival and marked 140 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, as part of an effort to promote cooperation between their filmmakers.
