Jeonnam-Gwangju seeks more national funding for 2027 projects

Jeonnam-Gwangju officials met Democratic Party lawmakers at the National Assembly to discuss securing more national funding for 2027.

The requests cover projects across the integrated city, including roads, an increase for Gwangju Metro Line 2, and support for semiconductor infrastructure.

Officials also sought funding for agricultural certification, exports, a media-art festival and recovery support for communities affected by the December 29 passenger-plane disaster.

The city’s 2027 government budget proposal includes 13.9009 trillion won, 820.5 billion won more than the previous year’s funding for the former Jeonnam and Gwangju areas.

Officials say more funding is needed to address local priorities and support future growth, despite the increase.

The city plans to send lawmakers written requests covering more than 170 projects not included in the government proposal or needing larger allocations, as it seeks additional funding through the National Assembly.
