60 EU lawmakers urge urgent meeting on sanctions against Israel

Sixty European Parliament members urged the EU to consider sanctions against Israel in a letter to foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

They said Israel imposed a blockade across the occupied West Bank after two Israeli soldiers were killed in Hebron on October 23.

The lawmakers said Palestinian homes were demolished in Hebron and families were given five minutes to leave.

They described the measures as collective punishment and said they could deepen Israel’s control of Palestinian territory.

They called on the EU to condemn Israel’s actions, demand the withdrawal of Israeli troops and have foreign ministers meet urgently to agree on sanctions.

They also urged Kallas to propose suspending the EU-Israel agreement, but the letter does not say whether the EU will take these steps.
