Flamengo challenges Estudiantes' use of Marcos Rojo after Libertadores exit

Flamengo lost to Argentina's Estudiantes on penalties in the Libertadores semifinal after their match in Rio de Janeiro ended 0-0.

The Brazilian club is challenging Estudiantes' use of defender Marcos Rojo, whose registration had been rejected by CONMEBOL before a sports tribunal granted temporary permission for him to play.

Flamengo says Rojo's appearance broke the competition rules and is asking CONMEBOL to award Estudiantes a 3-0 loss.

Estudiantes would be replaced by Flamengo in the final if the appeal succeeds.

The final is scheduled for November 28 in Montevideo, Uruguay, against Palmeiras, who advanced by beating Fluminense.

The appeal has not been decided, and Estudiantes will have a chance to respond before a ruling.

Flamengo's request does not automatically change the result or guarantee it a place in the final.
