Riot will shut down League of Legends Classic in January 2027

Riot will shut down League of Legends Classic in January 2027, about six months after the nostalgic game mode launched.

The mode brought back an older version of Summoner’s Rift and removed most champions and abilities added since 2013.

Riot says most players have returned to other parts of League of Legends, so the current season will be Classic’s last.

The company plans to issue refunds for Classic content made obsolete by the closure.

At least seven more champions are still due to arrive before the mode closes, including Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim and Lucian in an upcoming update.

Riot says it may bring Classic back as an adjusted event mode and will share more about what it learned from the launch.

The closure matters to players who wanted to revisit an earlier version of the game, but Riot says it will keep exploring different ways to play League.
