Parallax Films Takes International Sales Rights to Qiu Jiongjiong’s New Film

Parallax Films has taken on international sales for Fuxi: Four Tales Of Feasting, a new film by Chinese artist-filmmaker Qiu Jiongjiong.

The film is receiving its world premiere in the main competition at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

Rooted in the folklore of China’s Sichuan province, it tells four stories through feasts set across four millennia.

The feasts bring together the living and the dead, as well as gods and ghosts, in a handmade world blending painting, theatre and cinema.

The cast includes Lee Kang-sheng, who plays two grandmothers in different chapters, his first female roles on screen.

The film is a co-production between Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, and Parallax will seek international sales.

Qiu’s imagined world also appears in a solo exhibition at A4 Art Museum in Chengdu.
