China approves plans to expand disability prevention and rehabilitation care

China’s State Council has approved two plans aimed at improving health services.

One sets out disability prevention measures for 2026 to 2030, while the other aims to expand and improve rehabilitation and nursing care.

The plans call for earlier prevention and intervention, more services and better access across regions.

They come as China faces an ageing population, fewer births and changing health needs.

The plans also seek to connect prevention, hospital treatment, rehabilitation and community health care so people can receive more continuous support.

They call for particular attention to groups including children and mothers, older people, people with disabilities, migrants and people on low incomes.

The next step is to strengthen coordination and service capacity, especially at the local level.
