Indonesia revokes licence of South Sumatra bank over capital problems

Indonesia’s financial regulator revoked the licence of BPR Agritrans Batumarta on November 3.

The small bank is based in Ogan Komering Ulu, in South Sumatra.

The bank had a minimum capital ratio below 12%, prompting the regulator to place it under rehabilitation supervision.

It drew up a recovery plan, but did not fully carry it out, and efforts did not significantly improve its capital position.

On October 16, the regulator moved the bank into resolution after its managers and shareholders failed to restore it.

Indonesia’s deposit insurer chose liquidation, then asked the regulator to revoke the licence.

The insurer will guarantee deposits and oversee liquidation, and the regulator urged customers to remain calm.
