Former Germany’s largest piglet producer enters insolvency
LFD Holding has entered insolvency proceedings in Germany, after low prices for pigs and piglets put pressure on the sector.
The company was once Germany’s largest piglet producer, making about 1.5 million piglets a year at its peak.
The Leipzig court opened proceedings on 15 October, and the company is operating under self-administration, with its management staying in place under a court-appointed supervisor.
LFD had already shrunk from its earlier size, following the sale of sites and a 2021 fire at its Alt Tellin facility that killed about 50,000 animals.
Its 2025 accounts showed a loss of €2.6 million, while its equity had been used up.
Creditors must submit claims by 9 November, and the court is due to discuss the company’s future with them on 17 November.
They will consider the next course of action, including whether to prepare a restructuring plan.
