Depok Dispute Over Burning Rubbish Leads to Road Closure and Assault Complaint

Depok Dispute Over Burning Rubbish Leads to Road Closure and Assault Complaint

Residents of an estate and nearby RT 7 in Depok clashed after smoke from rubbish burned in a garden reached the housing area.

The dispute began on September 29, when resident S burned rubbish and resident A said the smoke bothered people living in the estate.

A social media post about the smoke deepened tensions after S’s family asked A to remove it, but the estate residents refused.

Residents then blocked the road into the estate, disrupting access for both communities.

Police mediation led to the barrier being removed and the residents initially agreed to make peace.

But Agung, a 29-year-old estate resident, later filed a police complaint alleging that he and his wife were assaulted during events on October 11.

The complaint means the dispute has continued, and the sources do not say what police will do next.

At first, I also did not want to report the assault case. Because the agreement was that the road would be opened, and we wanted to make peace.
