US and Russia in contact over sale of Lukoil’s overseas assets

Russia and the United States are communicating about the sale of Lukoil’s overseas assets, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The assets belong to Lukoil, a Russian oil company.

The US Treasury has issued a sanctions exemption for talks about the sale, allowing discussions to proceed without those talks being covered by US sanctions.

The exemption has been extended until November 21.

Peskov said the license could be renewed, but no renewal has been announced.

He did not identify a potential buyer, saying the deal is commercial and cannot be discussed publicly.

The sale could therefore continue under the exemption, though the buyer and final outcome remain unknown.
