Turkey creates national directorate to coordinate 112 emergency calls

Turkey’s Interior Ministry has created a national directorate for the 112 emergency call system under a presidential decree signed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The system handles emergency calls across the country, and its call centres in all 81 provinces are now standalone directorates.

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said about 15,000 people work in the system, which receives roughly 100 million calls a year.

It also coordinates responses to more than 31 million incidents, making faster coordination between emergency services a central goal of the changes.

The government plans to use AI-supported technology and stronger communications infrastructure to improve how the system responds.

The ministry says the aim is to get help to people faster and coordinate public services more effectively.
