Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies approves 2024 public accounts

Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies approved the 2024 public accounts by 321 votes to 117.

The accounts cover the final year of the previous government.

Opposition lawmakers argued that public money was poorly managed and that spending lacked transparency.

A lawmaker cited more than 67 billion pesos in alleged damage to public funds identified by the federal audit authority for that year.

He also pointed to 66.5 million pesos in irregularities at the National Electoral Institute, or INE.

Supporters said the review covered the previous government’s final year and highlighted historic funding for social programs.

The approved measure now goes to the federal executive for publication in Mexico’s Official Gazette.
