Foreign investors buy $1.2 billion of Indian shares in 10 trading sessions

Foreign portfolio investors bought nearly $1.2 billion of Indian shares over the 10 trading sessions from October 16 to 30.

They had been heavy sellers in September and the first half of October, and had sold more than $32.7 billion in Indian equities between January 1 and October 15.

The buying may be linked to worries about the global AI trade, as investors reassess exposure to US technology stocks.

Some investors may see Indian large-cap stocks, including banks and IT companies, as less exposed to an AI sell-off.

The recent purchases do not necessarily signal a broad return of foreign investors or a fresh bullish view of India.

In October, the Sensex and Nifty rose, while mid- and small-cap indexes fell; several overseas markets also declined.

Investors are now making selective bets on Indian shares, but no further shift in their activity is specified.
