Crystal Lake Nods to Snake Killed During Friday the 13th Filming

Crystal Lake will include a nod to a snake killed during filming of the 1980 horror film Friday the 13th.

In its first episode, Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, finds a snake in a camp pantry and sets it free.

The scene recalls the real killing of a trained bull snake during the original film’s production.

The snake was killed on camera, and its handler was reportedly unaware that the scene would involve killing it.

No animals were harmed while making Crystal Lake, according to creator Brad Caleb Kane.

The original film was made before animal protection laws were in place, and PETA launched two months before its premiere.

Crystal Lake streams Friday on Peacock and follows Pam as she grieves her son Jason’s drowning and tries to keep secrets from two strangers investigating her past.
