Adif completes repairs on Madrid-Barcelona rail line after train fire
An AVE locomotive caught fire near Ricla, Zaragoza, on Spain’s Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line last Monday.
The fire damaged railway infrastructure, so trains initially stopped and then ran on one track between Ricla and Plasencia de Jalón.
That restriction slowed services and led to delays and cancellations over the past week.
Adif, which manages Spain’s rail infrastructure, says it has finished repairing the damaged track and overhead equipment.
It expects to make both tracks available to operators on Monday, with the second track expected to be ready around 3 p.m.
Renfe, Ouigo and Iryo can then restore their usual services, but morning disruption is still expected.
The operators are waiting for Adif to formally hand the track back before confirming when service will fully return to normal.
