Nepal denies public screening permission for Udta Teer

Nepal has denied public screening permission for Udta Teer, the upcoming Hindi film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan.

The decision followed a review by Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board, which found the film did not comply with a provision of the country’s cinema law.

Accounts differ on which provision was cited: one says Section 8(3), while another says Section 5(3).

Officials have not explained what in the film led to the decision.

The film follows a Pakistani spy who loses his memory after entering India and mistakenly believes he is an Indian spy.

Udta Teer is scheduled to open in cinemas on October 23, 2026, though it will not have a public screening in Nepal under the current decision.

It was part of the script. As an actor, you are ready to do anything. This is a spy comedy, a patriotic comedy, and a genre bender. I do what the script demands; I'm a director's baby. It is a fantastic script.

It is the most difficult character because things were happening around him. I had to have that straight face, though there were moments when I felt like laughing, but I couldn't. I had to be normal while there was chaos happening around me.
