Writers visit Haimendorf memorial museum in Marlavai

Writer Allam Rajaiah and other literary figures visited a memorial museum in Marlavai, an Adivasi village in Telangana’s Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.

The museum honours Austrian anthropologist Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf and his wife, Elizabeth, who lived in the village during the 1940s while conducting field research.

The visitors garlanded statues of the couple, and Rajaiah gave the village sarpanch, Kanaka Pratibha, a copy of his novel about Kumram Bheem.

Speakers said Haimendorf’s work helped deepen understanding of Raj Gond and other Adivasi communities and shaped discussions on Adivasi rights, education and development.

They also recalled Kumram Bheem’s struggle for Adivasi rights over Jal, Jangal and Zameen, or water, forest and land.

Villagers shared Marlavai’s history and Adivasi cultural heritage with the visiting team, but no further plans were announced.
