OJK says it would assess risks if control of BCA changed

Social media claims that Indonesian businessman Haji Isam plans to acquire Bank Central Asia (BCA) have been denied by the bank.

BCA said the claims about a planned corporate action were not true.

The Financial Services Authority, known as OJK, says it would assess any transaction that could change who controls a bank.

It would examine loan concentration, related-party dealings and governance, as well as the bank’s risk profile and ties to the new owner’s business group.

For a significant change in control, OJK would also consider effects on competition, business strategy, lending, liquidity and capital.

These checks aim to prevent risks from building up and protect the stability of Indonesia’s financial system.

OJK says the banking industry is currently supported by adequate capital and liquidity and cautious practices, and it will continue monitoring ownership changes and corporate actions.
