Toyota's global sales and production fell in April-September
Toyota's global sales and production both declined in the six months from April to September compared with the same period a year earlier.
The company sold about 5.06 million vehicles, including Lexus models, a 4% drop, and produced about 4.90 million, down 1.9%.
Toyota said weaker demand in China contributed to the declines, as higher gasoline prices amid conflicts in the Middle East sped up a shift to electric vehicles.
Sales outside Japan fell 6.5%, while production outside Japan dropped 5.6%.
By contrast, sales rose in North America and Europe, supported by demand for hybrid vehicles in North America.
The results matter because they show how changing demand in China and other markets affected the world's largest carmaker by vehicle volume.
