Turkey Says Permanent Daylight Saving Saved 27 Billion Lira

Turkey has kept clocks on daylight saving time all year since 2016, rather than moving them back in autumn.

The policy was introduced to make more use of daylight and reduce electricity use.

Turkey's energy minister says the policy saved 13 billion kilowatt-hours from October 2016 to March 2025, worth about 27 billion lira at current electricity prices.

That figure is Turkey's estimate of the savings, and the policy has continued for about 10 years.

US President Donald Trump supports permanent daylight saving time, saying clock changes should end and that the shift could provide more evening daylight.

Trump has urged the US Senate to approve a bill that would change the rules, but the source does not say whether the Senate has acted.

We will continue in the same direction. There is no problem there either. Because we have indeed talked about efficiency. This daylight saving time has made a very important contribution to Turkey in terms of efficiency. This process will continue.
