Yaxel Lendeborg scores 37 as Warriors beat Clippers

Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scored 37 points in a 124-112 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

He made 13 of 19 shots, including six three-pointers, in his seventh NBA game.

It was the most points by a Warriors rookie since Stephen Curry in 2010.

Lendeborg had scored more than 30 points only once in 112 college games, but has already done it twice in his first seven NBA games.

With Curry and Draymond Green resting, Lendeborg took on a leading scoring role for Golden State.

The Warriors have needed another scorer alongside Curry since Jimmy Butler tore his ACL last January.

Lendeborg is averaging 22.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists, and his early form has put him in Rookie of the Year discussions.

I've never been a stat chaser in my life. Falling into peer pressure like I did just now was bad on my part. I'm a guy that loves ethical hoops. I kind of didn't do that for the last two or three minutes.

When he came into work out for us [in June], you could see the skill. But I didn't expect what I saw tonight.
