Woman dies after roadside breath test in Western Australia

A woman in her 50s died after a roadside breath test in Western Australia this week.

Geraldton police stopped her on Brand Highway in Mount Tarcoola, about 400 kilometres north of Perth, during a random testing operation on Monday evening.

Police issued her a driving prohibition notice and released her from custody.

Shortly afterwards, she began experiencing a medical issue and declined police officers’ offer of help, but they contacted St John WA as a precaution.

She later became unresponsive, and officers gave first aid until paramedics arrived.

She was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital, where she was declared dead.

Police are investigating the death in their presence, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
