Woman, 60, killed after being hit by two cars in Hoppegarten

A 60-year-old woman died after being hit by two cars on Wednesday evening in Hoppegarten, east of Berlin.

She was crossing the road at a railway crossing near Birkenstein S-Bahn station when an 84-year-old driver struck her, throwing her onto the road, and a second car ran over her.

Both drivers initially continued on without stopping.

The 84-year-old later returned while police were investigating, and officers took his driving licence; police are still looking for the second driver.

Police are investigating suspected negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

The road and railway tracks closed for about three hours, and replacement buses served the S5 and RB26 lines.
