US tech firms drive demand for Swiss franc bonds

Companies raise money by selling bonds, which they repay with interest.

Switzerland’s bond market had a record year in 2025, and strong demand continued in 2026.

US technology companies are increasingly borrowing there in Swiss francs.

Amazon raised 2.8 billion francs and Alphabet, Google’s parent company, raised 3 billion francs through their first franc bond sales.

The companies need large sums to invest in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Strong investor demand has helped highly rated borrowers get funding on relatively favourable terms.

The Zurich Cantonal Bank’s review also found that credit ratings improved for 12 of 165 Swiss bond issuers it assessed, while three were downgraded.
