Indonesia plans international financial centre in Jakarta before Bali
Indonesia plans to create an international financial centre in Jakarta first, with Bali to follow later.
Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the government is studying Dubai’s financial centre as a model.
The project is intended to help Jakarta develop as a global city and attract international investment.
Regulations, supporting rules and staff are being prepared for the centre.
Airlangga said a two-level process for settling disputes is designed to provide stronger safeguards for investors.
He also said good transport links are essential, pointing to Jakarta’s MRT and LRT plans and the proposed extension of the LRT to Manggarai.
Jakarta still needs to address problems including waste and flooding, and the government has not given a timeline for the centre’s launch.
