Welsh nurse barred for life after taking £750,000 from care home resident

A nurse in Wales took £750,000 from a care home resident over six years.

The resident was 99, vulnerable after a fall and had no family; she has since died.

The nurse, Rebecca Louise Burwood, had been a manager at the care home and knew the woman before she moved in.

Burwood used her position of trust to get the woman to transfer money, which paid for items including a car and camper, home renovations and cosmetic procedures.

The regulator said Burwood also persuaded the woman to pay £29,000 for the vehicle and camper, claiming they would take trips together.

The UK nursing regulator barred Burwood for life for serious misconduct, so she cannot work as a nurse again.

Police investigated, but the woman viewed Burwood as a friend and believed she had learned from her mistakes; the sources give no further legal action.
