Pauline Hanson drew stronger support than Angus Taylor at Brisbane CPAC

Angus Taylor, leader of Australia’s Liberal opposition, spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Brisbane.

He was the first sitting Liberal leader to attend the conference, which had been seen as further to the right than the Coalition’s mainstream.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson drew a much stronger response from the audience, with hundreds standing to applaud her.

Hanson criticised the Coalition’s past record but said she would be willing to form government with Taylor and Nationals leader Matt Canavan after the next election.

Taylor focused on attacking the Labor government and did not offer a clear plan to work with One Nation.

The contrast reflects a political challenge for the Coalition, as One Nation has gained support while the Coalition has declined.

The conference highlighted shared conservative positions, but left open whether the parties will work together.
