Google plans to bring Quick Share into Android and iOS apps
At Android Dev Summit 2026, Google announced a Quick Share SDK for Android and iOS apps.
Quick Share lets people send files between nearby devices, and Google says the new tools are due in the first half of 2027.
App developers will be able to add file sharing inside their apps, so users can start a transfer without first opening the system sharing menu.
The SDK is designed to send files directly between devices over local connections, with end-to-end encryption and no need for a cellular connection.
Google says it can transfer photos and videos without compressing them and can work without developers maintaining their own sharing infrastructure.
The feature will appear only in apps whose developers choose to add it, so it is not expected to become available everywhere at once.
Developers will need to integrate the SDK before people can use Quick Share within their apps.
Google plans to release a Quick Share software development kit for Android and iOS in the first half of 2027.
The kit will let developers integrate file sharing directly into their apps.
Users will be able to share files without first opening the system Share sheet and full-screen Quick Share experience.
Google says transfers will be end-to-end encrypted and can work offline.
Developers will need to add the feature to their apps before users can access it there.
